A One-of-a-Kind Art Museum in Napa Valley
When his father passed away in 1956, 20-year-old Donald Hess inherited a brewery, thus embarking on a wildly successful business career that would eventually lead the Swiss entrepreneur to purchase a vineyard right here in Napa Valley. In addition to his discerning palate, Hess also proved early on that he has a real eye for art, and he’s devoted more than 50 years of his life to curating one of the world’s most outstanding private collections of works by contemporary artists. A relaxing 22-minute drive from Napa Valley Lodge, the Hess Collection Winery & Art Museum at Hess Persson Estates offers visitors the chance to experience sculptures, paintings, found materials, and other media by visionary artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Artists currently on display include Andy Goldsworthy, Leopoldo Maler, Robert Rauschenberg, and Magdalena Abakanowicz. After touring the Hess Collection, you’ll then have the opportunity to sample several of the highly-acclaimed vintages produced at Hess Persson Estates.
