St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery and Timothy Horn are offering a 4-day (March 31st - April 4th), outdoor painting workshop geared toward intermediate painters working in oil. This is a rare opportunity to paint on private vineyard estates in Napa Valley, including St. Supéry’s Dollarhide Estate Vineyard, a 1,500 acre property featuring rolling hills, seven lakes, heirloom fruit trees and nearly 500 acres of vines.
The primary focus of the workshop is for students to learn to convey the sense of strong sunlight in their paintings by identifying, clarifying and pushing the values. Exercises will be used to help simplify these concepts. Students will also work on achieving clean color in their paintings and utilizing value patterns to aid in developing successful compositions. Horn will lead discussions on materials, scene selection and brushwork. During the workshop, Horn will create a demonstration painting each day, and work with students individually on their paintings throughout the day.
Horn’s workshop begins on March 31st at St. Supéry with an orientation and discussion of Horn’s recent work followed by a kick off wine dinner for the group. The next 3 ½ days are filled with painting on in the vineyards with lunches provided on location. The workshop concludes with a reception at St. Supéry on Friday afternoon.
